[edit] About

In the original Vedic texts, the Asura were a group of guardian deities within the Rigveda presiding over many mental and natural phenomena and included many well known chief deities such as Varuna and Indra. In later Hinduism however they were seen as a group of violent, power hungry, demonic deities that were in constant conflict with the more benevolent Devas. In these teachings it is believed all beings in the Universe are subject to either the divine qualities known as "Daivi Sampad" or the material qualities known as "Asuri Sampad". The Asura are said to embody the material qualities such as wrath, pride, ignorance, vanity or arrogance. Despite their cruel and violent nature in these later stories, many of the deities that were born as Asura would later change their ways and become prominant Devas within Hinduism.

The Asura can also be found within Zoroastrian teachings where the term is used to describe three of the major deities; Ahura Mazda, Mithra and Apam Napat. In this thay are defenders of the truth (Asha) and are all counted amongst the divine deities.

[edit] In-game

  • Strange Journey

Asura is the ruling demon in the blighted land, codenamed Sector Delphinus. In order to combat mankind, Asura had turned his body to stone and become an intangible entity formed of phychic energy. He was able split this energy into beings known as Formless and invade the minds of humans, using their own weakness and anger against them, driving them insane. The infected crewmen fought amongst themselves in their deranged state, many of them losing their lives in the process. This condition, that the crew of the Red Sprite came to call the Delphinus Parasite, was eventually treated through use of a special weapon originally designed for brainwashing called the MK Gun. Unable to defeat the strike team as the Formless, Asura returned to his physical form. When confronted by the Protagonist, Asura questioned why he would not allow him to return the human spirit to its original beautiful and chaotic form before facing him in combat. He is reborn later through the power of the Mother Goddess, in his true form, the goddess Asherah.
