  • Bai-Hu (Mandarin), Byakko (Japanese): 白虎

[edit] About

Bai-Hu is one of the four Chinese celestial beasts and is alternatively knows as the White Tiger of the West. He represents the direction west, the element of metal and the autumn season.

In ancient Chinese beliefs the tiger was considered the bestial king, and legend has it that a tiger that lives for over five-hundred years will transform so that its coat is as white as snow, it would then appear when the empire is at its most peaceful and prosperous. In the five Chinese elements, white represents west, and so Bai-Hu became the guardian of the west.

The tiger is also a symbol of might. Chinese tattooists usually offer prints for the left arm as Qing-Long and the right arm as Bai-Hu. Gangs such as the Triad are said to often opt for such tattoos.

In Digital Devil Saga, Baihu is a powerful member of the mysterious band of rookies who have formed a small tribe and are searching for Serph to destroy the Embryon and reach Nirvana. Baihu has been slaughtering the Embryon troops in Manipura in order to draw out Serph so that he can escape the hellish prison known as the Junkyard.

In Persona 3, fusing the four Holy beasts via Cross spread will result in Kohryu. Byakko's elemental affinities also changed from Ice to Lightning in FES.
