Dionysus, the Greek god of wine and fertility, son of Zeus and mortal Semele. It seems he was incorporated from other religions and is not originally from the Greek Pantheon. It is possible he is a fusion of minor local gods and a more potent deity from a neighboring civilization. He was generally an amicable guy. He invented wine and was extraordinarily attractive. He was captured by sailors at one point for the purpose of sexual pleasure. Instead of killing them, he transformed them into dolphins, with the exception of the Captain who had pleaded with his men to leave him alone. Bacchus is the Roman counterpart of this deity.
