[edit] About
From the Japanese epic novel Nansō Satomi Hakkenden (南總里見八犬傳), Yatsufusa is a loyal and intelligent hound of the prelude character Yoshizane Satomi (Yoshizane himself is a historical Bushi during Muromachi period, the story starts at Sengoku period.) When Satomi's Takita Castle is surrounded by enemy troops, he orders anyone who's able to kill the enemy general, Kagetsura, will have his third daugther, Fuse-Hime's hand in marriage. In that night Yatsufusa is able to bring back Kagetsura's head to prove its victory. Yoshizane grudgingly keeps the promise, but his servant Takanori, who originally has the engagement with Fuse-Hime, shoots it to death with a matchlock after the couple left Takita. Its remains leave eight sacred beads with each marked with a Kanji of moralities. These eight beads become the plot devices of the eight protagonists, Hakkenshi (Eight Canine Warriors) of the novel.
