Title: DDS Multiplayer
Post by Kitsune on 01/13/08 at 08:05:59

Who thinks that DDS would make a really interesting Multiplayer game? PErsonally I am thinking something along the lines of Warhawk on the PS3.

I mean the World of Junkyard seems really fun in that way:P

What do you guys think?

That's an interesting concept.  It's definitely something I hadn't even considered.  The only problem I see with it is that you'd never get any resolution to the war, but that's what Serph and the others all had to deal with anyway, so it's kind of in keeping with that world's history.

Yeah my thought process would almost be that you would have to do it BEFORE everyone got their Atma, because once that started is when things came to a head.

I'd definitely play.

You can do it with Atma. It'd be AU, but a lot of fun.

Until someone got Null Attack.

It really would have to operate under an expanded spell system. There just aren't enough abilities to stop it from being boring.

A Persona online game... that has potential.

I think if you were going to do something like this you would have to eliminate Nulls.  Have resistances, but no nulls.

Elimination is never good.

I would instead suggest that they be exceptionally rare.

Or else at least extremly extremly hard to get, to the point where you debate weather or not its worth it.

I'm of the opinion that if you put in the work, youshould be able to get what you want in an RP.

I concur, but if we are talking a multiplayer vs situation, powers that eliminate things entirely can make balance very difficult.

Well certainly, but won't that only be a problem in the event you go for an extreme focus?

Then again... the way SMT is set up, you pretty much just need the highest tier skill. Hm.

You see where the problem comes in, you have to factor in balance.  Mabye for a Null skill, you make it a percentage of a chance of nullifying?  Like say, 25% chance of nulling?  And nothing like Null Attack, only null against a specific element.

I'll take Megidolaon. And Null Death. ^^ That one should be allowed, since nobody likes instant death.

I don't think you'd kill the Megaten aspect of the game if you removed or altered those skills though. Maybe a spell that gives you Null ______ for five minutes. Maybe more, maybe less. You could cast it on others at higher levels. Tons of ways to pull it off fairly, I guess I'm saying.

I would simply remove the instant death part.

Simply make Hama/Mudo/etc deal Light/Darkness damage respectively. The only problem persay is that there's less spells. I would recommend expanding the spell list to four suffix levels, then all of the other special spells. Observe:

Agi
Agilao
Agidain
Agidyne
Ragnarok/Pyrphegetelon/Judgment

----

Hama
Hamala
Hamaon
Hamalaon
Xanadu/Seraph Lore

---

Megido
Megidola
Megidon
Megidolaon
Fire of Sinai/Death Flies/Celestial Ray/Reincarnation

I take is none of you have played warhawk.

Think of it as battlefield or counterstrike.

Basically you get a soldier that you can customize a little and this soldier gets dumped on a map with other soldiers. You start with a handgun, a knife and 2 grenades. Your objective is to kill everyone that does not happen to be your character or on your teams character.

Oh plus there are fights planes and tanks and stuff.

Atma abilities would basically have to be scaled down so that when you transform, there will be a bar that represents the amount of time you have in this form ( say a few seconds) in this form all of your fire arms turn into magic attacks (dependant on the weapon you picked up) and your melee attack has a chance of devouring the opponent, getting more health than if you just killed them normally and picked up their items.

There is no real room for RPing, just massive killing. Thus if null abilities were brought in, say goodbye to balance and fair play.

I dont know, I almost think it would work better in a heavy-PvP MMO type environment.

I actually hijacked the topic and completely ignored Warhawk, ahahhaha.

I wouldn't do too much PvP to tell the truth, though you could implement Law/Chaos that way.

Honestly, Persona is a better game in terms of PvP and RP potential. I once read the char descs of a Nocturne RP and I wanted to hurl. I mean... what, Michael becoming a Fallen? That one guy's Tsukoyomi Moon God being absurdly overpowered? What the hell.

yeah persona would make a better mmo because of the fact that the main players are just everyday high school kids so you can create anyone really.

but yeah RPing some other games is just destined to fail.

It's a lot to do with the fact that in Nocturne, you can customize to create a pretty good skillset. If you get something really good, what happens? You get copied.

A Persona RP can prevent such things, as the GM would to an extent control what skillsets you can have. Of course, you should allow customization in the form of Spell Cards, equipment, and innate boosts.

I like the sound of it, but would it be F2P?

Title: Re: DDS Multiplayer
Post by Kitsune on 01/26/08 at 11:27:32

well warhawk is, you just pay for the expansion that came up recently (Omega Dawn) so if this game was made, there would be no reason to not make it F2P

That's good.
Whilst I understand that companies that run MMs have to bring in money, at the same time I think it's bullshit how some of them charge high amounts just to play.
