Title: Persona 2: EP Faceportraits
Post by Isao Kronos on 06/10/08 at 23:49:22

Would anyone happen to know of a utility that would allow one to rip the faceportraits from Persona 2: Eternal Punishment?

If not, a site that has them ripped CLEANLY?

I'd like to find in-game sprites of the demons and Persona myself.

Thanks Emilio, which program were you using to rip? I don't think anyone can get rips of the P2 IS and EP demon and Persona sprites

No kidding... If you can tell me I'd appreciate it, as I'm trying to get the Persona 2 Velvet Room sprites.

You're welcome =D Well the program I use doesn't display the sprites of the characters from both games (IS & EP) just the characters portraits (most of the main characters) and the Sumaru maps.

It's kind of hard to get the sprites of the demons, characters and NPC with the software I use, like I was telling, it only displays (for example) BMP files, and maybe the sprites are in a different extension.

I don't remember the name of the program right now, but just let me get home and I'll tell you, or if you like I can upload it if you can't find it ;)

Yep you're right, but it is because the software doesn't display ALL the portraits.

Yeah, I noticed you were missing a couple of Soul Hackers enemies. But that's ok, we still love you.

Cool =D, Thanks for point that out :P

Well, the name of the program is: "PsxMC322", I will upload it tomorrow, cause this thing is giving me a lot problems. In the meanwhile, why don't you try to look for it (the ones that are interested in it).

Emilio, have you tried PSicture?

http://tekkenzone.tripod.com/download/psxstuff.rar

Part of that.

For some reason it crashes and burns horribly on my disc image. Does it do the same on yours?

To tell you the truth, I haven't heard of it   :-? But I can't download it, cause it says that the files contains a virus xP, is there other link to download this program?

Well, this one really worked ;) Thanks Tallgesse. But if I run the program with the Persona 2 Batsu CD, it doesn't finds anything :( I'm I doing something wrong?

http://rapidshare.com/files/135159236/SoulHackersSprites.zip.html

I took a few minutes to reorganize the Soul Hackers sprite rip archive. The demons separated by race (Gods/Angels/Beasts/etc), then by tribe (Majin, Megami, Daitenshi, Datenshi, Tenshi, etc), and named. I used the names from the wiki, so the accuracy of some are highly suspect. And that doesn't even account for typos on my part.

I didn't name the characters, but they're divided into Spookies, Enemies, NPC, Shop Keepers, and so forth.

I have no site with such stuff, but I've got the whole package I ripped myself while translating IS. And since the format was similar, I also ripped most of the stuff in EP as well. Here it goes:
- Innocent Sin: battle (http://www.sendspace.com/file/qglz2j), portraits (http://www.sendspace.com/file/2p7na8), room chars (http://www.sendspace.com/file/k3ugzh), tarots (http://www.sendspace.com/file/zi1vv1);
- Eternal Punishment: battle (http://www.sendspace.com/file/cnzudb), portraits (http://www.sendspace.com/file/pab2pu), room chars (http://www.sendspace.com/file/smm2ki), tarots (http://www.sendspace.com/file/u33x1i).

Shoud be pretty much complete, except for images using multiple palettes or segments. Sorry, but PNG 4bpp doesn't support the first feature and I'm too lazy to edit a few rips and make them use 256 colors to override that limit. Anyway, portraits and tarots have no problems at all, so enjoy.

Delicious as all hell. Thank you! *Saves*

Can I ask how this was done?

Title: Re: Persona 2: EP Faceportraits

I ripped them using a custom utility.

Ahhhh, I see. I'd ask if it's at all possible you'd release that since I'm deranged and like doing this kinda thing myself, but eh. Joys of being an archivist.

Title: Re: Persona 2: EP Faceportraits
Post by Gemini on 08/26/08 at 17:39:33

I'd rather not release it for personal reasons, and it won't rip anything else in any case. It's hard-coded to only rip those images, so it'd be totally useless to the general public. :p

Ahhhh, okay.

Well, that's fine. I was just thinking of correctingwhichever ones yousaid were messed up.

Thanks a lot, I'd assumed that they used more polygons for the characters, but this shows that they use multi-part billboards / sprites which were pre-rendered and just cycle thru frames/positions. Sorta like how StarCraft works... it's fascinating.
