Title: Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei translation/walkthrough
Post by teh_lvler on 09/01/08 at 23:33:17

Hi, I'm currently writing a translation/walkthrough for Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei, similar to what Re-Miel did for the SMT SFC games. I’m not translating every single bit of text, but just enough to understand the story and to able to complete the game.

So far, there are two demons names that I’m not sure how to write in English. I guess [ch12525][ch12461](Roki) is Rocky, right? And also for [ch12475][ch12488](Seto), should it be something like Seth, or just plain simple Seto? Or maybe Satan? Any ideas?

Roki is Loki Norse god of tricks, mischeif and as some people say...evil
Seto is Set/Seth Egyptian god of ..hrmm...can't remember...most people toss him in the evil cart too, but he was more than that..

Thanks a lot Maverynthia; I'm not too familiar with demonology.

Ok Emilio, I'll post the progress of my work on this topic.  :D

Sorry for the bump; just a little update to let you guys know that I’m still working really hard on this project.

I’m presently half way through the first game. I’m completely immerged in this project right now so it might not take too long before I complete it. Finally I am translating pretty much everything because I think the game is more enjoyable if you understand the whole thing.
I will post a first version once I complete the first game.

Take your time :D I'm really looking forward to this! BTW, what inspired you to work on this project? The Tsumi english patch? Or something else?

Thanks for the update ;)

Or the novels? :P

Speaking of which, how close is the 1st game to the novel trilogy anyway?

It's not really an inspiration, but I’ve been wondering why there was no English walkthrough/translation released for that game yet, so I decided to do it myself.

I'm back into the mood of writing this translation/walkthrough now, but I haven't played Megami Tensei II since such a long time that I forgot a lot of stuff. Are there any important parts in the game that I should pay attention? I'll go check the Japanese websites again to refresh myself.

Being very careful about the pillars and the clues about them, as backtracking is always a chore and NPC inside buildings are always a little too well hidden, and showing mercy to defeated demons (to end up sweetly, sweetly overpowered).
Also, if you want to be able to use all the best equipment (the Lucifer Armor and Sword) , you'll have to keep the hero intelligence high, over 28-30 (or was it magic? if only i hadn't lost my saves ...).
And remember, when you don't know where to go anymore, Ginza is (yet again) the answer.

You might want to correspond with the folks over at http://kaioshin.romhacking.net/ who are fan translating the game. They might be able to help you/you help them.

Another useful site might be http://sa-two.yuudachi.net/mt2wg/intro.html

How Isao was useful for once. I have no words to express what I want to say in this situation.
