Huh, they managed to break past the registration. Interesting.

Got any good ideas on how to stop this one?

All I can think of is adding a silly math question to the registration page.

I think the recently implemented Newbie / Less Newbie thing is a brilliant step in the right direction.

The best way to judge if a login is owned by a spambot or not is to let them post and then judge the results, but making them post to an existing thread minimizes the damage...

also, if you discover they're a spammer, you could (I'm just suggesting) set up a script to delete not only the account, but also, their posts, perhaps leaving just a placeholder and maybe statistical info for improving the spambot filter (although the latter would be harder due to their tendency to create statistics-warping random text, but a fuzzy spellcheck could filter those out, I guess).

Anyhow, they seem to be targeting every online forum, not just this one, so maybe there's some sorta society against them by now like how there is with blacklists and whitelists for email spam.

Simply adding a custom question that only humans could possibly answer at the regpage will stop them from registering.

Even something stupid and unorthodox like "Enter the number after 1" would probably work.

Brand, can I borrow the FTP? I really ought to just add a stupid little thing to the register script to stop bots from registering to begin with.

Bots have to be preprogrammed. You add something remotely custom and they go nuts.

I'll get you the information later today.

Yeah, not a good idea to post your email in public with email harvester bots walking around.

I gotta get some sleep.

All done. Take a look at the registration page.

If this proves not enough, I'll mnake it a bit more complicated.

No new spam members since you made the change it seems.  Thank you very much again Tallgeese.   :)

I'm just curious if it knocked off people too lazy to count the number of letters in my name.

There is always a win some lose some in cases like these.  But the spam sign ups were getting out of hand.  Now we just need to work on getting more real members to join.

You should try and recruit some people and ask them to join, see if there's a bug in the regscript. There shouldn't be, but...

We need to steal them from the offical Atlus forums and Digital Devil DB. There are also quite a few fans on the Aeria Games SMT Online board.

Hmmm... biggsyke, you go to the official Atlus forums, right?

Would they kill me for asking them for that Jack Frost image they use as their logo? Just the Jack Frost part?

Actually, I'm not registered there. Just here and Aeria.
