Though I'm not sure when they say the next Shin Megami Tensei will be on the PS3 are they talking about Persona 4 or a new SMT game.

We will have to see, but I am excited that it looks like FES is comming to the states.  I really need to get back to and finish P3, but WoW has just consumed me of late.

I wonder if Atlus will ever reveal when or why they decided to release this. Whether they planned to all along or if it was because of the numerous accolades piled upon P3 or if it really was all of the online begging and pleading (at least one petition on every msg board I've looked on). As long as they're releasing it stateside and this isn't just another rumor that squeaked through, I'll be happy.

I hope that we DON'T get FES. Aigis's story is so absolutely ridiculous it ruins a good deal of the first game's story.

I've spoiled myself on Aegis' chapter so much that it doesn't matter to me now.
Regardless, I'm looking forward to the dates with Elizabeth and the special Social Link endings if FES is released.

Yeah I finished Persona 3 the other day and I was hopping for a little something in the ending for each of the Social links you maxed out.  But you never do find out what happens to the those folks.

Was this the EGM article? And since the most recently (sort of) announced SMT game was for PS2 (Persona 4), I have to doubt the credibility on those grounds.  
 
Still, I hope they're telling the truth. Everything I've seen about the expanded game looks awesome.

Yeah it was from EGM.  I could see the next Persona game being PS2 and the next SMT game being PS3 but that little blurb isn't very clear.  It's hard to tell because now all the games get the SMT label put on them.

It definately coincides with a game release (Tuesdays) so it could very well be FES. Wish they'd advertise it more if it is, so people can actually realize it IS coming out. (well if it IS FES).

Unlike DVDs and CDs, there is no "game release day".  I worked at EB for a few years, trust me games can come out any day of the week.  I think recently Professor Layton came out on a Sunday (which is pretty unusual, weekdays are more common, as shipping is more expensive on the weekends).
 
Also, I don't think they would be counting down for a game release in a week.  It more likely would be an announcement that they plan to release the game state side in a week.

Probably, but games are generally released on Tuesdays or is that movies... *shrugs* maybe both now. There's always those that break the 'rules' but there's a kind of standard nowadays, personally I used to work at Gamestop (not too long after they changed over) but I can't remember really releasing anything while I was there.
 
In any case, we'll know in a week what the timer's for.

I don't think it will be all that related to the anime or Persona 3.  Persona 1 only had mild connections to 2, and 3 had only hinted at connections with 1 & 2.  It's not like they are calling it Persona 3 part 2 or something (at least so far).  So I am going to imagine it's another game that may use much of the established battle system of 3 (but altering it a bit) with a whole new plot.

By your own reasoning though, the anime is only loosely affiliated with Persona 3 as it stands (even if it is '10 years later in a different town' and there's Apathy Syndrome). Persona 2 even had playable characters from P1, so I'd have to say that's just as big a tie in between the games. Besides, what better way to cash in on the advertisement of the anime?

In Japan at least there are two versions, a stand alone, and one you have to use the save data from P3 (or the P3 disk, how that works I'm not to sure).
 
My guess is we will only get the stand alone, because they stand to chance to sell more copies of that.

Okay, so after visiting the FES website I noticed in the Metis and Aigis videos that there seems to be an expanded soundtrack.  Can anyone confirm this as true?  Also, I am assuming my compendium of personae from the original P3 can't be transferred to FES, esp since this is not an appendage to the original.   That's a bit of a bummer, but we do get new final persona for some of the arcana right?

You know I'm not sure, even if it's not the Append disk it should still be able to read your memory card for the information it needs to give you the Personae from your compendium.

Regarding transfering saved data from the original, here's what the staff member at the official Atlus forum had to say:
 
8. Can I continue my game of Persona 3 in Persona 3 FES?
 
Not really. The Journey section of P3 FES is meant to be played from the start so that you can experience all the new content. If you're in the middle of October in Persona 3, you cannot load that save into Persona 3 FES and pick up in the middle of October in The Journey; you must start a new game at level 1. However, you will be able to load some things from your Persona 3 save into FES. These are:
 
-Your Academics, Charm, and Courage rankings
-Your discovered Fusion Spells list
-Any key items you possess that unlock Persona fusions
-Your Persona compendium (However, the Personas in your compendium will be reset to their base level, stats, and skills)

The logic is "Why work on this game, when we can get P3 out faster?" An earlier release date for baroque would not be likely considering the "DEAR LORD WHAT ARE WE DOING WORKING ON GETTING THIS GAME OUT FASTER WHEN THERE IS A SMT GAME TO RELEASE?!1" mentality I am sure ATLUS has. (After all, SMT is their cash cow.)

I'd prolly get it if it's released in the UK, but I've only seen it spec'd for the US so far... P3 might not be my fave in the series, but that doesn't mean I don't like it. =P

So it should be out now, right? I'm thinking of picking it up next Saturday after I beat DQ8 for the umpteenth time. Is anyone liking it so far?
