Kazuma Kaneko Works III

Kazuma Kaneko Works III
Release Date: 2008/2/28

http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/switch-language/product/477530609X/ref=dp_change_lang /250-0467872-9875469?ie=UTF8&language=en%5FJP

Looks like it covers SMT 3, and the Xbox game, plus some recolored art the first two games. I'm not a 100% sure on that as I put the text though babel fish and half of it was gibberish.

I ordered the other two volumes from Amazon.co.jp, so I recomend them.

Here I thought they going step-by-step, expecting art from SMT If. So glad I'm wrong.

I quit my main job so I'm a bit out of luck right now.  But they still have the other two volumes which I got back in 06 still in stock so I'm not to worried.

I'm tingly with excitement. I picked up the second volume at Katsucon, and while I wasn't all that impressed with the art style, its still a nice compendium to have. The 3rd volume looks even more promising though.

Also, anyone know if there is a different between the art in Kaneko Works and the Book of Demons?

>> From the preview pages at Amazon.co.jp, the 3rd volume has the newer "metallic" digital colour style, IMO much better than his marker style.

Maybe Volume IV will have Persona art? Now THAT'll be a pretty package.

>> Maybe that other one is more of a "demon profile" book. It did say "small illustrations".

Man, the cover on it looks wicked!

That dude from Dokuganryu did scan the first book. People complain about his quality sometimes, but they do that all the time.

When I get mine, I'll scan the cover's full art as always.

Some people need to STFU! (not you) but I've had people complain about my scans also.  I'm spending my money and time to share these things with everyone, services people are getting for free.  I hate it when people whine about free stuff.  If someone wants better scans then they need to buy the book and scan their self.

I do plan on getting the 3rd book at some point (I have the first 2).  I'll see about scanning but I make no promises since I'm so bad about getting around to it.

I hate it when people complain about scans as well, what do they need giant "perfect" scans for, going to make shitty t-shirt transfers and sell them on eBay or something?

...I do admit some of the art would make good ironic t-shirts

But besides that, I just use scans for art referencing since usually screencaps from the games are blurry and etc

..so I'm saying I appreciate any scans. Hell I'm the type that used to get grainy GIF's of Breath of Fire characters and try to make heads or tails of..well, anything

Forgive my scanner, there's dust underneath the glass and all.

Holy shit, this cover is un-fucking-believable. Okay, that's just my opinion since I love Nocturne to death, so take it as you will.

The art within the book is... well I only scanned like 2 pieces of them so I'll just post those, since they were among the few that could be obtained without damaging the book.

Lol, somebody's not fond of Yosuga. No wonder the classic Law units were stuck there.

That cover is far too busy. Second cover was better by miles.

It is very cluttered towards the lower half, but I just love that Demi-Fiend is sneering.  Tongue

It's probably worth noting how the demons are classified by "Light", "Dark" or "Neutral" rather than by Law or Chaos. And the humans and a few demons are in "Other".

I noticed the sneer, but honestly on him it just looks dumb.

As for the lack of Law/Chaos, it's probably because they're trying to artificially get rid of the distinction, which utterly bombed with Maniacs. It became exceedingly obvious that every Reason ending was Law, Freedom was Neutral, and Demon + True Demon were Chaos.

Very cool. Thanks for the scans Shinogu, I'm looking even more forward to getting this.
So does this contain any never-before-seen concept art, such as for the Demi-fiend? The previous volumes came with a pencil board, does this have any extras?

Works III's extra is lackluster, even compared to Works II. It's the same thing, a mini poster, but a bunch of the 3D models of various characters on it instead of sprites or even new artwork.

The Reason Gods have never had their official art released yet, so there's that. We've also never seen art for Gozu-Tennoh, its Priestess, the Master of the Fusion place (Cathedral of Shadows?), or any of the Manikins (Sakahagi has a mouth. Big shock, I know.). There's some more too, like how we never got Shin Megami Tensei NINE, so there's that.

(you'll have to pardon me since I've never played the SMT games, I don't know the guys name)

Lead character's gonna have to CHOKE A BITCH

Now Kaneko's alright and all but gee, sometimes the art just looks..bad. I guess it's just sketches though for character designs so that makes sense.

...this makes me want to draw some lulzy things though

But really, how could a cylindrical object get racing stripes painted on it? It just wouldn't look as "put together" as the rest, at least I don't think so. Well maybe it'd just be hard to get racing stripes on it

IT WOULD BE TOO HARD TO DRAW THE RACING STRIPES ON.

Also Tallgeese mentioned ass-stripes, I think those are more doable than dong stripes

I think it's in a museum called "Hot DnD Babes Cum See Them Now"...9.95 entry fee just to see that, then you leave with nightmares. You just wanted some elf pron, and you get a spider-woman drawn in...I have no idea what he used, it was like a program from 1985

He kept saying how "incredibly hard" it was to draw those things... All I can figure was that they were either going to become 3D models (oh god the horror) or it was vector. But vector isn't that hard so I have no idea what his problem was nix the obvious.

>> Got it last week.

Plus:
- Art from SMT:NINE.
- Wicked cover art.
- Quality paper and binding.

Minus:
- The colours are saturated. Really saturated. I'm afraid to touch it 'cause the ink might not be dry yet.
- Most of the hues are shifted towards the yellows and reds. I dunno if they were trying to make them less pale or what.
- Left out a lot of art (e.g. Kagutsuchi).

Seems like they tried to avoid including art of the deities that were featured in previous works like the Archangels or Metatron, or maybe they're holding it back for Digital Devil Saga?

Kagutsuchi's absence was disappointing, but YHVH (either of them) weren't in KKWII, so it was kinda expected.

I'm not saying it's the only rationale, since Ose didn't get a major design overhaul, but KK decided to redraw him anyway. Codpiece and coy grin and all.

The real bulk of "new" art I'm waiting to see are from Devil Summoner/Soul Hackers and Persona.

The next KK Works'll be Devil Summoner, so I guess that's that.

Edit: Found the original release schedule of volumes for KK Works, before they had NOCTURNE moved up to slot 3.

So I guess that's 2 Devil Summoner books, and 2 Soul Hackers books, and then PERSONA.

What do you mean "Source"?

Yeesh. I got it from the publisher's site or whoever it is. And yes, that's the order before they moved up NOCTURNE.

Ah yes, forgot to mention. The next Kazuma Kaneko Works is gonna be Devil Summoner. I wonder if there'll be any Kuzunoha Raidou in there.

I guess it might be the reprint of "Demonic Compendium I" of "Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner" (not Raidou Kuzunoha.) But it really reduces the value of the book as if KKW I and II since the sketching and coloring techniques are definitely second to Nocturne~current period.

Can someone translate the order of book releases (and dates, I guess, if they are there) for the Japanese impaired?

Any indication of when the next one will be released? And is PlayAsia the best place to get the new one as of now? I have the second and I love it, but I'm not sure about getting the first volume...

So far, the Kazuma Kaneko Works books have been released in around 2 year spans? We'll probably see the next one in 2010. I'm only going by what I remember their release years to be, so yeah.

Dunno about recommendations on where to get the books. I was fortunate to be able to travel to a Kinokuniya which is where I got the first 2 books, and the 3rd one was ordered from Amazon.jp. A relatively painless experience, just be there to sign for the package.

As an alternative to the other stores mentioned, I've always had good experiences ordering from Sasuga Books . It's currently in stock and I find their shipping rates to be very reasonable. Hobby Link Japan had it too but it's now on backorder.

Dude, that looks so awesome, if I wasn't so cash strapped I'd order it in a heart beat. Just for Cover alone. God Bless you and your scans

According to the Hobby Link Japan site, it's 208 pages. Also, it's hardcover but I suppose that's a given?

It's really...um...strange that they would release these books with two year gaps (at least, at this point). Wouldn't it make sense to release them within month spans so they can catch up with the games? Considering we're only on the thrid volume so far, the last volume would be released (in theory) in 2022!!!! Who knows how many SMT games will come out by then XD

Also, WHY IS THERE NO BONDAGE ANGEL ARTWORK IN THE THIRD VOLUME?

Also also, anybody know what sort of paint program Kaneko uses for his newer stuff?

I'm sure they'll drop everything they're doing and get right on that. Fuck all that eating and sleeping business, and fuck all the other projects the people in charge of the book are on. Hell, lets invent some sort of machine that makes all the technical processes involved with printing faster then normal. Also, while we're at it, I want my "My Little Ponies/Care Bears fight Satan" GURPS edition rule sets back from that fucking storage unit fire. However, since all that is either impossible, or too improbable, lets just settle on 2022.

...It'd be so strange to see Wifey Pony doing battle with the blue six-breasted monstrosity that somehow passes for Satan in SMT.

I seriously will never understand that design. What's the rationale for the tits!? Please don't tell me that's supposed to represent temptation or something.

These guys have pretty good service but the only thing I don't like about them is that sometimes it takes forever for them to process stuff.  I've had it take them a month to deliver an order.  I figured it was because one of my items was backordered or something but it would have been nice if they allowed you to break it up and just pay more for shipping stuff when it came in.

They may let you do that now since I haven't bought anything for a year or so.

Kazuma Kaneko Works III
Release Date: 2008/2/28

http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/switch-language/product/477530609X/ref=dp_change_lang/250-0467872-9875469?ie=UTF8&language=en%5FJPbladeless fangevey simx360key

Looks like it covers SMT 3, and the Xbox game, plus some recolored art the first two games. I'm not a 100% sure on that as I put the text though babel fish and half of it was gibberish.

I ordered the other two volumes from Amazon.co.jp, so I recomend them.
