I have owned this title since it came out in the U.S., and every once and a while I still pop it in my PSX and play a little. I had a couple of questions and figured I would make a general thread.
 
I have never been able to get Lips' card. Have any of you?  
 
 
I have never witnessed a mutation during fusion. Anybody?

I can't remember clearly since I played MIP a while ago, but I guess I went trough a mutation just once, Igor just said something like "something's wrong" or something like that XDD can't remember, and I received the Persona Leviathan but I'm not quite sure though... nah! forget about it, my mind it's a mess right now  Huh

Lips tends to haunt Castle Mana a lot, and kill my party with Extinct... so I don't think I really tried to negotiate much with it, just find out what it was weak against and kill on sight. I'll try negotiating nex ttime I play, I still have save data nearby.
 
I've seen mutations but don't remember the details. Very rare. I've also seen something where Mary's persona spontaneously did some sort of healing spell when she was  low on sp + hp and the rest of the party was unconscious... it seems the game has a lot of nice design features, they're just hidden behind the rough and incompletish presentation.  
 
Do you hae the Japanese version as well? It only occured to me recently that I have Soul Hackers and Innocent Sin but not the JPN release of MIP/R : P/P1.  
 
Have you ever seen a sponeouts persona-demon interaction? Those can be funny... I think they're more common in P2:EP but they're in P1 as well.

I have seen the spontaneous demon-persona reaction. They are neat. I have also seen what you are referring to with a Persona reacting on their own in battle -- although it is very rare.
 
I don't have the Japanese version of MIP. Much like you I do own DS, SH, IS, and the Japanese version of EP, but no Japanese MIP (yet ;P ).
 
Yeah Extinct can suck. Just think what it would be like if the U.S. version hadn't been so nerfed. It really doesn't kill me much though. I have leveled a lot while trying to contact Lips.

I must be lucky tonight (it is a Full Moon... );
I got EG Lips on the first try!
 
The contact/negotiation went like this:
 
Main - Recruit ( Lips got Angry)
Mark - Stare (Lips got Angry)
Lips - Ask for Magic Stone,
I granted the request, (Lips got a bit Joy and Interest)
Nate - Speech, I think (Lips Maxxed out Anger)
 
But! Lips apparently also maxed out interest, saying
"just take my spell card!"  
 
So I got EG Lips.  
 
I didn't expect it to happen so soon, I tried to vid cap. it but on my old computer with the flakey capture card setup, so the video didn't come out too well. I can try again later but [update] Here's the youtube vid:

Uh wow....That is kind of frustrating. I have been trying for probably 15 plus hours to get that damn card. I have the same party (not that that would make a difference)......................I have even been close to maxing out her interest. It didn't even budge for you.

It seems the key is maxing out Anger and giving the MagicStone. She seems to be a "material girl" and care more about that bribe than you, and perhaps is never very happy or interested in people... or it could just be a bug in the game. I've found a lot of small ones.
 
It surprised me too, I didn't expect to even meet Lips until I got to Castle Mana, but this occured just a few dozen steps north of Black Market...

Don't think that is the key. I think that was pure luck. I have probably done that close to 30 times (maybe even more), and in the same area. Wink I have had her get angered and give stuff as well -- just not a card.

Is it just me or do other people get lost in Lunarvale as well?
 
One hour into the game, I haven't gotten past the prologue. All the houses, trees, and whatsoever look exactly the same. However, this is a little better than Shin Megami Tensei II. In that game, I got stuck on one these places for such a long time just looking for the exit. LOL!
 
So, does anybody have a link to a full or semi-full map of Lunarvale?

The game has a map for you, I think one of the shoulder buttons activates it for you.

No. It is a map of the entire town. L2 button. It even shows the buildings that can be entered by highlighting them. Pretty easy and convenient.

There's a rough map in one of the gamefaqs.com FAQs (they're only two), but i's not complete nor to scale... and it's not just you, I personally very much hate how they did the world map... Soul hackers, Persona 2, etc. were better in a way, but I actually think that they just didn't go far enough with the overworld map... a change of perspective, and more stuff to do, perhaps visible enemies, would have made it really fun... the traffic is a weird touch, I wish you could hail a cab....

I know that some of you are having problems with the map because you are playing on an emulator and certain cursors and markers are not showing up.

As I recall, there were a lot of factors that determined Fusion results. I know Full Moons tend to increase the chance significantly. Also, certain family combination will as well. I would also imagine the game assigns each variable a sort of 'rating' rather than simply adding up the factors. I think aside from certain factors it is a flat rate of 1/256.

Speaking of Megami Ibunroku Persona, I saw youtube videos of someone playing the snow queen quest with the U.S. translation script....right down to "tacklemore" etc...
 
HOW do I achieve this? Do I need to find the Japanese version and then become a tekkie and rip my own U.S. version and dump the script or what?  
 
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
 
(P.S. - It would be terribly neat to know how to dump/hack/rewrite the script. I could do a WHOLE lot of cleanup for that game. Specifically no more (spell name)-more/most nonsense...)

There's a gameshark code that'll allow you to access the SQQ in the US version of the game:

The actual storyline and dialogue aren't in English (although one of the FMVs of Philemon is), they won't be in Japanese either. They'll just be garbled text.  However, the demon conversations and menus and such will all be the same as the US version.

Most emulators support using the gameshark codes, and if you had an Interact Dexdrive or such, you could transfer the data (from your PS1 memory card to the PC+emu)... now that I think about it, there might be some sort of driver for the PS3 memory card reader.  
 
Anyhow, I haven't yet gotten the code to work, but, I think it's just because I lack much patience.
