Help I have no clue when it comes to PSX emulation
10/15/08 at 06:20:26

Help! I have no clue when it comes to PSX emulation.  I've tried before to do the PSX emulation to play the original Persona again, but it didn't work out so well as it ran rather clunky on my computer.  Which it really shouldn't have.

So now I want to play Persona 2: IS on my computer.  I have the iso and the English patch. How does the patching work though?  Like I would a SNES game?

Also a recommended PSX emulator (for windows XP) and a place to find the PSX bios I would need to play the game would also be awesome.

Thanks for anyone willing to help out.

For emulators: pSX.

As for places where to find the BIOS... Crap, can't remember. I'll try to dig it up. But the pSX site says the name of the file, so you should be able to find it if you google around.

As for how to apply to the patch, Gemini's online read me explains that.

If someone wants to be my BFF and help me find the ISO, I'd love them forever.

Yes, but most likely I was doing it wrong because I was half asleep at the time.

I'm using ePSXe and these are my video settings (using Pete's PSX D3D Renderer). The patched image runs smoothly.
The bios and and plugins aren't hard to find. But if you need some *help* PM me...discreetly.

I'll stay my hand and see if I can make it so it doesn't need patching from Pat.

Ok, I have the game running and I play some and it was awesome.  But I am still having one problem, when the Persona appear they are messed up.  Other wise the game seems to be playing fine on ePSXe 1.60 (I could get the 1.70 to run).

I am using Pete's DX6 D3D Driver 1.77 since that was the one with the least messed up sound.  Is there another video driver I could try?  I tried PeteOpenGL, PeteD3D, and PeteOpenGL2, and with those either they were super speed up or the sound was messed up.  I have a NVIDIA GeForce 6800 for my video card, running Windows XP SP3.

It's different with every game, but for me the Persona 2 games seemed to need the most tweaking. You have to fiddle with the settings in your selected video plugin configuration until you find something you like.

edit: and I'm using ePSXe 1.7

Oh and thanks biggskye, your video options you posted helped alot, I was having trouble with the Personas being just a weird formation of lines before I switched to yours.

Hey, mine is only a GeForce Go, on my 2 year old notebook. I can't complain though. Why, what video card are you sporting SHODAN?

Random question:  I have a friend who uses a mac, but she wants to play Persona.  Is it possible?  I mean... can I point and laugh and be like "You made fun of my PC, but here's why Macs aren't perfect beyotch" or is there a way that I could find an emulator that would run this game?  Her roommate has a PS3, but I don't know what kind, and I doubt she would want to let her play Persona all that much....
